Easing Gout Pain One Cherry at a Time!
By: Darren Williger
Cherries have been used for several centuries as added nutrition in ones diet…but can this delicious fruit really help pain! It has been documented that cherry juice can relieve the pain of Gout. In 1950 they conducted a study that showed that eating ½ pound of cherries or drinking 1 liter of cherry juice will lessen your gout pain! What a delicious treatment…don’t we wish we all could be that lucky?
The excruciating gout pain that plagues several thousands of people each year is a hear one to swallow. The idea of tiny sharp crystals of anything floating around in ones blood is not something one looks forward too. However there have been new studies that show this pain can be relieved.
The tiny jagged crystals that form in the blood usually strike the toe first namely the big toe. Know one knows for sure why this particular joint is targeted but they say it feels like walking on broken “glass”.
Gout wreaks havoc on many sufferers each year while we can lessen the amount of attacks there has not been a cure. Gout symptoms are:
- Sudden intense Pain
- Red, swollen joints
- Low-grade fevers
There are several foods that one should avoid when diagnosed with gout these foods can increase the amount of attacks you have:
- Anchovies
- Goose
- Mackerel
- Meat Extract
- Shrimp
- Dried Legumes
- Herring
It is also known that Gout is worse in people who are overweight and have high blood pressure can get more attacks. Extra weight can also cause too much pressure on the joint and create more inflammation. The loss of weight too rapidly can also create more attacks of gout.
There has been documented proof the shows that cherry juice can give you a relatively quick result when drinking cherry juice. It has been reported that cherries contain Flavonoid compounds which can lower uric acid and also reduce the inflammation in your joints. Since uric acid is the trigger of these attacks it would help significantly to reduce that pain and possibly prevent some future attacks. Researchers wrote in the Journal of Nutrition “Cherries may protect against gout” However we have found nothing published that would support the fact that taking regular cherry juice lessens attacks but it is worth a try.
Overall the pain of gout is excruciating and affects the quality of life for all who suffer it. Often many people reach for relief however they can get it. While gout as with any condition should be followed closely by a doctor the use of some herbal remedies can be useful; one herb that is known to help with this condition is Autumn Crocus. Talking to your physician about its treatment would be wise. The idea of cherries in any form sounds appealing to most you should simply load up and enjoy!
